Dahlia Tuber Shop

Tubers will be shipped when our weather and your weather are consistently above freezing to ensure tubers do not freeze in transit. They will be shipped via USPS.

Tubers will be packed in baggies containing wood shavings. 

Please open your tubers upon delivery and inspect them for any damage. If you believe there is a problem, email dani@tendrilsflowerfarm.com. Please include pictures. Leave the baggie open or partially open to allow airflow and avoid moisture buildup. Store your tubers in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them outside. 

Dahlia tubers can range widely in shape and size, but it does not matter! A 2" tuber and a 4" tuber will both grow into robust, beautiful plants.

Wait until all danger of frost has passed before planting your tubers.

Dahlias require full sun (6+ hours per day) in order to thrive and bloom abundantly. 

If planting in a container, the container should be a minimum of 1 foot deep and 2 feet wide.

Pick a spot with well draining soil and dig a hole 4-6 inches deep. Place tuber in the hole horizontally, on it's side. Refill the hole with soil.

If planting multiple tubers, allow at least 12" of space between plants.

DO NOT WATER UNTIL YOU SEE GREEN SHOOTS COME UP. Watering before this stage may cause your tuber to rot. 

Once you see green shoots poking up through the ground, water your plants regularly. 

Once the plant reaches 8" - 12" tall, they require a good pinching to give you a robust plant with many blooms. Pinching entails cutting the top 3" - 4" of the center growth off. The encourages branching and longer stem length.

Dahlia plants get large and tall. They will require support as the season goes on.
